DOF / DOFLinx over Bluetooth

⚠ DOF / DOFLinx setup & configuration are out of scope for 3DPTronics support. VirtuaTilt is 100% compatible with them, but our help is limited to what these written guides already cover — we cannot create, debug, or tune DOF / DOFLinx configs for you. Virtual pinball has a steep learning curve; please study the guides and lean on each project's own documentation and community. We value your feedback and help where we can, but we cannot go further than the guides.

Setting up DOF or DOFLinx? Let it read your setup.

VirtuaTilt for Claude is a free extension that reads your configuration — your profiles, your DOF, your DOFLinx — and helps you set them up for your VirtuaTilt: it names the file and the line that is wrong, instead of listing what is usually wrong. Needs Windows and Claude Desktop, and a VirtuaTilt you already own. Beta. virtuatilt.com/install

From firmware v8.0.19 the Wireless VirtuaTilt can take DOF and DOFLinx feedback over Bluetooth too: the bumpers/slingshots solenoid and the shaker follow the game, with no USB cable to the PC. You need one of the two DOF profiles and the Bluetooth version of DirectOutput.dll, which is in the redist folder under tools/DOF-Bluetooth/.

The two profiles

ProfileForPairs asThe cabinet works as
VTConfig-BT-VPX-FuturePinball-DOF_v1.X.jsonVisual Pinball X and Future Pinball (also through DOFLinx)VirtuaTilt-PCkeyboard + gamepad, as VTConfig-BT-VPX-FuturePinball
VTConfig-BT-STEAM-DOFLinx_v1.X.jsonSteam games with DOFLinxVirtuaTilt-SteamXbox controller, as VTConfig-BT-STEAM-XInput; the Center button is Start / Menu

Set it up once

  1. Close Visual Pinball X, Future Pinball, DOFLinx and anything else that uses DOF.
  2. In your DOF folder (for example C:\DirectOutput), save a copy of the DirectOutput.dll in the x64 and x86 folders.
  3. Copy tools/DOF-Bluetooth/x64/DirectOutput.dll into the DOF x64 folder and tools/DOF-Bluetooth/x86/DirectOutput.dll into the DOF x86 folder, replacing the files there. If Windows shows Unblock in the Properties of a copied DLL, tick it.
  4. Program the profile you need with GUIConfigTool (Loading a Profile).
  5. In Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices, remove the cabinet (VirtuaTilt-PC or VirtuaTilt-Steam) if it is listed, then add it again. This is needed once: the profile adds the feedback interface to the cabinet's Bluetooth device.
  6. Start a table. For games that use DOFLinx, start DOFLinx first and keep it running while you play. DOF finds the cabinet with the same unit number as over USB, so your DOF and DOFLinx configuration works unchanged.

DOFLinx must be running. With VTConfig-BT-STEAM-DOFLinx the bumpers/slingshots solenoid and the shaker are driven by DOFLinx only: start DOFLinx before the game and keep it open while you play. Without it they stay off.
